One of the most sought-after speakers on the platform today, Donald Whitehead has given motivational speeches in over 42states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Toronto, Canada. He has been a featured guest on CBS News, ABC News, Fox TV, CNN and MSNBC, and has had radio appearances on CBS Radio, NPR, and many local stations throughout the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Canada and Mexico.

Donald has spoken on the issues of homelessness at a variety of universities throughout the United States and Canada, including Yale, Villanova, Penn, George Washington, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, the University of Cincinnati and the University of Toronto. He has also spoken at events such as the National Symposium on Homeless Research, the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans Conference, and state conferences on homelessness in Iowa, North Carolina, Colorado, Ohio, Florida, Georgia, New York, New Jersey, Washington, Georgia, California, Puerto Rico and Minnesota, Missouri.

A Leader.

Donald Whitehead is a founding member and former Vice President of the North American Street Newspaper Association. He was a key member of the planning committee for the 40th Anniversary of the March on Washington, where he spoke at a plenary session on homelessness and sat on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial alongside the family of Dr. Martin Luther King.

He helped create the “Homeless Think Tank” for the city of Cincinnati to develop a strategy for providing services to the homeless population. The “think tank” model is now officially incorporated in the city’s Continuum of Care process and has been used as a “best practices” example in communities throughout the United States.

He served two years as Executive Director of the Greater Cincinnati Coalition Homelessness where its membership grew from 20 members to over 70 active members under his leadership. He is a Board member and former Board President and Executive Director of the National Coalition for the Homeless, the oldest and largest advocacy group in America working exclusively with people experiencing homelessness. As President, he guided the Coalition towards the completion of the strategic “Bringing America Home Plan,” which evolved into a bill introduced in the 108th Congress.

Prior to 1995, Donald was an advocate for

Greenpeace, environmental racism and con-
sumer rights with Citizens Action.

Donald has served on the Advisory Board for the Georgetown Center on Cultural Competency and the National Healthcare for the Homeless Conference Advisory Committee. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of People Demanding Action. And The National Coalition for the Homeless.

He has testified before committees in the 107th and 108th Congress about the plight of homelessness in the United States, and has been a dinner guest of former President and Senator Bill and Hillary Clinton. His work as a compassionate activist extends across the country, where he continues to make visits to shelters, soup kitchens, transitional housing facilities, and people living on the streets.
